Linda Rankin
Linda is one of Australia’s leading Scottish Fiddlers and resides in Adelaide, South Australia.
She has been involved with Scottish music since beginning her musical training at age eight.
She initiated and is Artistic Director of the Adelaide Scottish Fiddle Club which promotes and teaches the music of Scotland and Cape Breton. The club performs at local festivals, events and produces a yearly concert.
Having performed all around Australia, Linda has a wealth of experience always sharing her love of the Music of Scotland along with her own songs and musical compositions.
Linda performs with a wide range of musicians from Jazz and Blues through to Classical, and is always looking for new ways to express her musical passion. These musicians include renowned Blues guitarist and performer Chris Finnen with whom she has collaborated to produce her latest album Threads and the ensemble, Various People.
Various People’s self-titled album, released in 2006, brings together the talents of some of South Australia’s finest musicians seamlessly mixing Celtic-based form with elements of Jazz, Indian Classical music and contemporary Classical genres.
‘Threads’ is Linda’s 2nd solo album and is a reflection of Linda’s musical roots and new directions. Since meeting Chris Finnen, Linda has begun a musical friendship which sees them collaborating once more to create a new musical accent.
Both Linda and Chris are currently working together towards performances in Melbourne and Adelaide in mid 2008 and are available as a performance duo.
Linda is also available as a solo artist, or as 'Scotch Myst' - with Tony Schick (guitar), Steven Morabito (percussion) and Mattie Salter (double bass) - for a wide range of events, including festivals, weddings, parties and folk club performances.
