Linda Rankin
Linda is one of Australia’s leading Scottish Fiddlers who has grown up in the Adelaide immersed in Scottish Country dancing, fiddle music and Piping influenced by her stepfather’s involvement and mentorship, Pipe Major Ernie Dowler OAM.
From an early age, Linda chose the violin over the pipes and has never looked back!
Parenthood, has kept Linda close to home these last ten years, but this has not held back her creative muse! She has studied with renowned Scotch fiddler Alasdair Fraser, travelling to California in 2001 and spending time under his tuition at The Valley of the Moon Fiddling School. Linda performed with him at Santa Cruz and the Pleasanton Highland Games.
Linda initiated and has been the Artistic Director of the Adelaide Scottish Fiddle Club, which performed at the National Folk Festival in Canberra in 2009, handing over directorship of the Club to Catherine Fraser after ten years at the helm.
Linda has been a regular performer at all the South Australian Folk Festivals and has headlined at the Sydney Fiddle Festival in Hawkesbury in 2004.
Linda’s musical expertise has allowed her to perform and collaborate with a wide range of musicians from Jazz, Blues and Classical genres and she is always looking for new ways to express her musical heritage.
Since meeting Blues Guitar Legend Chris Finnen, she has begun a new musical journey which has produced two new albums and lead to a new musical collaboration, her band, Korda.
